In 2004, a woman in Covington, Georgia, reportedly tried to buy more than $1,600 worth of items at a Walmart using a bill with a face value of $1,000,000.

There was one enormous problem: the United States has never issued a real $1 million bill for public use. The cashier refused it, and store staff contacted police.

According to news reports, the woman was accused of trying to pass a counterfeit bill and was charged with forgery. The situation became even stranger because she allegedly expected the store to accept the note and make change from it, as if the register was casually stocked for millionaire-level grocery runs.

Real U.S. currency has included some very large denominations in the past, but a spendable $1 million note is pure fantasy.
