They Bought Tickets to the Space Needle… Then Jumped Off It

Listen to this post

Well, you've heard of 'living life on the edge,' but those two mysterious guys in Seattle took it one notch, or rather, 605 feet, up. Yes, they did what your average rule-abiding, law-abiding souls like us would call 'absurdly insane.' They purchased tickets to the iconic Space Needle, climbed all the way to the top, and then, wait for it... JUMPED OFF. I mean, why the hell not?

Now, before you all start rummaging for your helmets and parachutes, ready to dive headfirst into the adrenaline-rush package of BASE jumping off an iconic landmark, let me just take a moment to say: DON’T. Why? Because it’s illegal, and because, you know, common sense.

As AP reported, not only did these daredevils take an unsolicited leap from the Space Needle, but they also did it in a true ninja style. They casually disappeared into a restroom, emerged wearing helmets (props to them for at least thinking about safety), gave the glass barrier what I can only imagine was a cheeky salute, and then made their leap.

Naturally, the Seattle police were not impressed. To them, it’s not a matter of 'Yippee ki-yay'; it’s an all lights flashing, sirens wailing, 'you're under arrest for trespassing' situation. And since you're probably wondering, no, these audacious fellows haven't been identified or nabbed. Their identity remains as elusive as Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster. You’ve got to admit, it's a little impressive...

The question is: was it worth it? Was the thrill of defying gravity, the exhilaration of the fall, the snapshot of Seattle shrinking beneath them worth the potential for criminal charges and whatever consequences may follow? Maybe in their helmet-clad, adrenaline-junkie brains, it was.

Schedule this narrative under 'whacky headlines of the week.’ I bet the whole escapade was more thrilling than your morning cup of coffee, eh? But again, let’s leave the groundbreaking, gravity-defying stunts to these mischievous thrill-chasers and stick to reveling in our lackluster, ever-so predictable, and law-abiding lives.

Because let’s be real: The most extreme 'jump’ we common folks should ever be taking at the Space Needle is probably jumping to conclusions about where we should eat lunch afterward. Let the daredevils be daredevils, but do remember, what goes up must come down, especially when it's leaping off a 605-foot tall landmark... Without permission.

And there you have it: ordinary folks buying tickets to the Space Needle, then jumping off it. Seattle, what a wonderful, never-dull city you are. Stay safe out there, people. After all, this is an adjective we'd love to keep attached to our dear lives.
